The Canada Emergency Response Benefit to include people making up to $1,000 a month, seasonal workers and people whose E.I has recently run out.
CANADA - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new measures to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.
The benefit is going to change to make it easier for people to access the funds.
"Today I can announce we are expanding the Canada Emergency Response Benefit to include people making up to $1,000 a month, seasonal workers and people whose E.I has recently run out. Maybe you are volunteer firefighter, a contractor who can pick up some shifts, or you have a part time job in a grocery store, even if you are still working or if you want to start working again, you probably need help making ends meet. So if you are earning less than $1,000 a month you will now be able to apply for the CERB, if you were expecting a seasonal job that isn't coming because of COVID-19, you will now be able to apply and if you have run out of E.I since January 1st, you can now apply for the CERB as well."
Trudeau says they will be making more announcements soon.
"For others, who still need help, including post secondary students and businesses worried about Commercial rent, we will have more to say to you very soon. No matter who you are, or where you live, we are in your corner."
Trudeau also announced they will be topping up the pay of essential workers, however he did not get into specifics on that.
