Officials say Pope has accepted an invitation from Canadian Bishops to visit.
As Indigenous leaders continue to seek an apology from the Catholic Church over the residential school system, Vatican officials say Pope Francis has agreed to visit Canada.
In a statement, officials say the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) invited Francis to the country "in the context of the long-standing pastoral process of reconciliation with indigenous peoples."
It also says the Pope has accepted the invitation, but no date has been set for the trip.
The CCCB says they're "grateful" that the Pope will visit, and Indigenous survivors, Elders, knowledge keepers and youth will have the opportunity to speak with Pope Francis about the timing, focus and themes of his pilgrimage into Canada.
