As Statistics Canada releases the annual crime report, things don't exactly look rosy for the Friendly City.
Statistics Canada has released the annual crime report and while Oxford County maintained the status quo for the most part, the City of Woodstock did not fare as well.
Although the overall crime severity index for Woodstock only saw a small increase, the violent crime severity index shot up:
In 2015 that number rested around 35 - last year it jumped to 132.
Part of that increase could be attributed to the seven murders committed within the city by former nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer. In total 8 homicides and 4 attempted murders were reported in the city in 2016. Robberies, assaults, and sexual assaults all saw minor decreases. Sexual violence against children remained steady with four incidents reported in both 2015 and 2016.
Ingersoll's number of reported sexual assaults doubled from 6 in 2015 to 12 in 2016. Other numbers in Ingersoll largely remained the same.
Overall Ontario’s Crime Severity Index was up 4%
