WOODSTOCK - It's time to lace up your running shoes for a good cause.
The Walk for Parkinson's will be taking place at South Gate Centre in Woodstock on Sunday September 10th.
Jessica Halls, the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Parkinson's Society of Southwestern Ontario, says Parkinson's is a progressive neurological disorder that causes the dopamine in the brain to disintegrate.
"It affects motor and non-motor symptoms. So it ends up affecting the entire body in the end. It's the fastest growing neurological disorder in the world now and even in the last 10 years it has increased 50 percent."
All of the money raised will be going to Parkinson's research and support services. Halls says the fundraising goal in Woodstock is set at $8,297 and the 14 walks in Southwestern Ontario would like to raise a grand total of $450,000.
Halls says the registration for the Woodstock walk will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday and the walk should begin at 2:00 p.m.
"We are going to be walking back behind the South Gate Centre in the park and then inside we'll have the entertainment, the raffle, and stuff like that. So it's a really fun day for families to come out to support the Parkinson's community. I think that's one of our favourite parts about this weekend because it really is the culmination of the entire Parkinson's community in Southwestern Ontario coming together to support one another."

Halls also stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Friday September 8th. You can listen to the full interview below:
