Warden Mayberry attended a conference in Kassel Germany to discuss solutions relating to renewable energy
The Warden of Oxford County is feeling more energized about renewable energy after attending a conference in Germany.
Warden David Mayberry says the county was invited to a conference in Kassel to discuss solutions and problems relating to renewable energy. "There was also an opportunity to meet with other people from other countries - 14 different countries there - to talk about how do you measure progress or success and have a holistic vision of what does it mean to move forward in renewable energies."
One thing the Warden took note of was how eager community members in that part of the world seemed to be when it came to renewable energy. "I think the one thing is that they've had tremendous success in community energy projects where the community's been involved, particularly around wind," Mayberry says. "And we heard from a number of places the idea that if the community invested in the project then when the money came back it stayed in the community."
Operations Manager for Woodstock Hydro Jay Heaman also attended the conference, as did two students from Toronto's Flemming College to help document the trip.
Mayberry says he hopes that what he learned at the conference will help Oxford County move toward the 100% goal in the future. "You hope that what you brought back over the long term will have value. I think connecting with people from San Francisco, or Vancouver, or Japan, or Germany is always important because we now have a relationship with those people."
