Odd-numbered houses will be able to use outdoor water on odd days, while even-numbered houses will be able to use outdoor water on even days.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is rolling out its water conservation program.
Starting tomorrow, residents across the County will have to adhere to the times they will be allowed to water their lawns.
During the odd days between May 1st and September 30th, all odd-numbered addresses will be able to use sprinklers or hoses to water their lawns between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. then again between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. On even days, the even-numbered addresses have the same guidelines.
Businesses or commercial properties fall under the same rules but have time frames of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If anyone wants to request an exemption, for the likes of filling a pool or for recently installed landscaping, you can call the County at 519-539-9800 or email water@oxfordcounty.ca for more information.
People watering their lawns is one of the biggest users of municipal water in the communities, and statistics show last year water consumption increased by as much as 51% in the summer months. The County relies heavily on the groundwater for their water supply and limiting the amount residents can use will help conserve the supply during the summer months, when water use is high.
The penalty for not adhering to the by-law may include reduced water pressure to the home for repeat offenders, which would come with a fine to get water pressure back to normal after a waiting period of 24 hours.
