Woodstock Collegiate Institute is renaming the Sports Wall of Fame in honour of a well known alumnus who passed away.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Collegiate Institute is memorializing a well-known alumni for his contribution to the athletic community. WCI Red Devil alumnus and London Free Press sports journalist Steve Coad passed away in 2013. The school is renaming the Sports Wall of Fame in Coad's honour.
"It is something we are implementing in conjunction with homecoming, unfortunately because of the tragic early death of a good friend of mine and WCI alumni and sports reporter with the London Free Press-- Steve Coad," said WCI Physical Education teacher Kathy Roberts.
The wall of fame is being launched with help from Coad's family.
"His two older brothers are helping to fund the initial start up of it and it's just going to be a memorial athletic hall of fame in his name to honour WCI greats from the past."
Roberts is seeking nominations from the public of WCI varsity sports alumni for every decade since the school's inception.
"Nominees have be 2009 and earlier, so they have to have been a graduate for a minimum of 6 years, they have to have played their entire high school career at WCI in a minimum of two varsity sports, and then it is up to the public to nominate people."
