The Women and Wellness event this year was able to raise over $19,000 that will go towards the free walk-in counselling sessions offered by CMHA Oxford.
WOODSTOCK - The Women and Wellness Event in Oxford County this past fall was able to raise over $19,000 this year.
Over 175 women, men and youth from Oxford County attended the event back on September 29th at the Craigowan Golf and Country Club. The evening featured Guest Speaker Betty-Lou Kristy who spoke from the heart about losing her to son to an opioid addiction.
All of the money raised will go towards Walk-In Counselling offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association of Oxford County. Chair of the event Shirley McCall-Hanlon says the walk in counselling is a great service that is offered in our community.
"The research has shown that often people just need one visit, they are having a tough time and the opportunity to have someone talk them through it, has proven invaluable for many people, so that's why we have this event to raise funds to keep these free clinics ongoing for the residents."
She adds this event has raised over $40,000 for Oxford County Walk-In Counselling since it's inception three years ago.
"For the third year now individuals, organizations, businesses and corporations from Oxford County and beyond have generously come forward and offered their support in raising funds to sustain the free Walk-In Counselling services across Oxford County. We know that by continuing to work together, talking together and supporting each other as we work together through challenging times, that we can and will shine a light for all those experiencing mental health problems."
