Woodstock City Councillor Connie Lauder is ready to step up to the plate if Mayor Birtch is away in 2016.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Councillor Connie Lauder has been officially appointed as acting mayor of Woodstock for 2016. If Mayor Trevor Birtch were to become ill or have to leave the city for a short while, Lauder would step in and act as mayor until his return. Lauder was nominated by Councillor Deb Tait in Thursday night's city council meeting, and that nomination was seconded by Councillor Shawn Shapton.
Shapton tells Heart FM that he thinks Lauder is perfect for the job;
"Councillor Lauder is going to do a great job. She has a lot of experience coming into this and she was quite excited to have the opportunity".
Councillor Lauder was not in attendance at Thursday night's council meeting due to a vacation. Prior to leaving, she informed her fellow council members that if she were to be nominated for the position, she'd gladly accept.
Lauder's term as acting mayor will run until January 2017.
