
It's the first time Synchronized Skating has been invited to the competition.
WOODSTOCK - A 14-year-old girl from the Friendly City will be taking her talents to Oshawa to compete in the National Skating Championships.
Amber Lovell is a member of the junior Synchronicity synchronized skating team from London. The "family" of 17 will get their opportunity on a national stage in early January.
According to the London Skating Club website, synchronized skating is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers.
The 2023 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships is for all types of junior and senior figure skaters, however it's the first time synchronized skating has been invited to the competition.
Amber's mother Stacey said it's an incredible platform to show their skills but also learn from other skaters who have competed internationally
"You can't even describe it. It's just such a wonderful experience. Amber has worked so hard, she skates six days a week, she loves her team, she loves her sport, and to see her at this level fills us with pride."
Stacey also said that Amber started with the Synchro team in Woodstock, but after they stopped competing, they looked to join the Synchronicity. Amber also expressed her excitement to put on a show for a national audience.
"I've worked so hard for this opportunity and honestly it makes me really happy... I really love my teammates and I'm really proud of everything that we have accomplished."
The tournament will be broadcasted on CBC and live streamed on CBC Gem from January 9th until the 15th.
