The Woodstock Hospital has proved its dedication to green initiatives, and has been named a finalist for the Green Hospital of the Year
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Hospital is making other medical centres green with envy now that they are a finalist for the Green Hospital of the Year Award.
Capital Projects Coordinator Chris Marion says this is the second year they've been up for the award. "What it means is that we are one of the top five hospitals in Ontario that participated in the Green Hospital Scorecard that is put on by the Ontario Hospital Association. The OHA."
Marion also explains what they had to go through to be considered."We submit our energy, waste, and some of our policies that we have here in place. And we get a scorecard. Like a report card in school. And it grades us against other hospitals in the province based on waste generation, energy intensity, leadership, policy and planning. And based on all of these we get a score, and this year we came in the top five."
When asked what sets them apart, Marion says it all really started with the construction of the new hospital. "Back in 2012 we became the lead accredited facility, we gained a lead silver status. The past year basically we've had a few initiatives that have given us a good score on the scorecard."
The initiatives come from several different departments, whether it's finding more effective ways to recycle air filters, or going paperless in HR.
Voting is now open to staff at Ontario hospitals and a ceremony will be held in November by the Ontario Hospital Association to determine the winner of the award.
