The University of Ottawa isn't coming to Woodstock anytime soon with word the Provincial funding will go to Markham
WOODSTOCK - The University of Ottawa isn't coming to Woodstock anytime soon. Woodstock was one of 18 communities in Ontario who had applied for provincial funding for a satellite campus. On Wednesday the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities announced the funding will go to Markham where they will build a York University Markham Centre campus in partnership with Seneca College. This means Woodstock will not be able to apply for the funding again until next Spring when Ontario will issue a second targeted call for proposals for a post secondary facility. Mayor Trevor Birtch was in Markham today for the announcement and told Heart FM they will definitely be applying for the funding again. The new Markham Centre campus will serve an estimated 4,000 students in the York Region, with the potential for more students over time. Woodstock was hoping to get the funding so they could house a University of Ottawa satellite campus downtown. Heart FM will have more reaction from the Mayor tomorrow.
