The City of Woodstock has handed out $12 000 in Tax Relief
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock has handed out $12 000 in Tax Relief.
"Generally it's for the prior year, so the majority of what we wrote off tonight related to 2014. There were 2 cases, one for 2012 and one for 2013 and that was because there was a mistake made in the assessment," says Treasurer Patrice Hilderley.
Residents may apply for tax relief if there has been a change to their property value - such as a building demolished by fire, a reclassification from commercial to residential land, the land has become vacant, or several other reasons.
Hilderley says, "The City's share of that [$12 000] is about $6 000. The school board also shares in the write off and so does the County."
Any building bought up by the City also become tax exempt, and are included in the Relief.
