Oxford County council voted to support in principle, the Woodstock Oxford Rotary project to build a transitional shelter community at the Movement Church in Woodstock.
Woodstock Oxford Rotary Club has asked Oxford County Council for their support to build a Transitional Shelter Community in Woodstock.
The Rotary Club is looking to build the Tiny Homes at the southwest corner of the Movement Church property. The plan would be to build 12 cabins plus a commercial building.
It would be located in a fenced in area with controlled access with security cameras, lights and onsite security. The 10x10 units with a 6 inch porch. The portable community building would be 20x40 and include a common room, washrooms and showers, kitchenette, laundry services and a secure office for social services.
The tiny homes would be built by Premier Portable Buildings and finished by volunteers. They would include 100 sqft plus 6’ porch, 2x6 floor (R20), walls and roof (R14) insulation, electric heat and lights, bed, mattress, pillow and linen provided and a closet for clothing.
The Rotary Club would be looking for community partners to help them with this project.
On Wednesday night, the Rotary Club was asking for council to support this endeavour in principle and they wanted to get that support before they started fundraising.
It would cost over $600,000 to complete this project and that factors in $228,000 in Operational costs, $312,000 in capital and $67,000 in Operational costs.
Councillors engaged in debate on supporting this motion. They mainly wanted to make sure that if they supported this project in principle, if that would mean they would need to provide money for the project in the future.
In the end County council voted to support the project in principle and receive the delegation for information.
