The final levy increase was 8.83 percent, but it works out to 6.33 percent when you take growth into consideration.
WOODSTOCK - The revenue budget was a hot topic at Woodstock City Council.
Last night, lots of discussion was had on many motions as to where money would go or not go when it came to the 2025 budget. At the end of the talks, Council passed the budget and Mayor, Jerry Acchione talks about how tough it was.
"The Revenue Fund Budget was again very difficult. This is my 11th budget I have been through over the years. The last couple have been one of the toughest, inflation has been very tough on us."
Mayor Acchione says the final levy percentage increase was 8.83 percent, but explains what each resident of Woodstock will see on their taxes.
"Once we take growth into consideration, so that's the homes and the businesses that have come here to the City of Woodstock, that brings us to a 6.33 percent increase is what we are going to be seeing on the taxpayer, which on the average home right now here in the City of Woodstock would equate to $191.18."
He adds a zero percent increase would always be nice, but with a growing city they have to be realistic, and focus on what Woodstock needs. Acchione believes they have what they need and cut a lot of wants in the budget that was passed.
He also wants to send a thank you to all the staff and departments that took the time to discuss their needs and help make this revenue budget one that got passed.
