Woodstonians say there is still work to be done before public transit becomes truly accessible.
WOODSTOCK - The first city council meeting in over a month began with a resident frustrated with Woodstock Transit.
Although resident Marianne Park applauded Woodstock for having a transit service she says more work still needs to be done. City Engineer Harold deHaan spoke with Heart FM about the issues she faced. "She thought more opportunity should be out there for buying tickets and passes. We have looked at, and we continue to look at stores, however we can't make a store sell our passes and we periodically continue to ask other businesses. If more people do sign up then we will be adding more to the list; right now we have about 12 including the city departments. All of them are located close to bus routes." Park issued a test for city councillors to go about their daily duties by using public transit as their mode of transportation so they realize how trying it can be.
Many residents of Woodstock are fed up with the lack of businesses willing to sell passes to ride on Woodstock transit and deHaan responded to one of the methods brought up about selling the passes right on the bus itself. "We actually did consider purchasing passes and tickets on a bus, however we found that to be a health and safety thing as well as a risk or a liability. This also effects customer service because it then slows the buses down as they have to deal with change and the whole transaction. To be honest some of our buses right now have trouble making their routes on time so we don't want to slow the buses down any farther.
