The Anderson Family, Herbert Clark, Braden Wilheim, Kelly Paton and Alf Langdon are among the inductees being added to the Woodstock Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday October 29th.
WOODSTOCK - The brand new Woodstock Sports Hall of Fame will be unveiled today at the Community Complex.
They will have a special ceremony starting at 1:30 p.m. to reveal the new interactive displays. One of the nominees is Kelly Paton who is the head coach of the Western Mustangs woman's hockey team and a star in NCAA hockey south of the border.
She is looking forward to the ceremony the ceremony.
"It's a great honour to be represented and recognized by your city like that. And I know Woodstock for me was where my grassroots for hockey started and I played 7-8 years in the boys program there before I made the switch for the girls."
The 2016 class also includes the Anderson Family, Herbert Clark, Braden Wilheim and Alf Langdon. Langdon is being inducted posthumously and his daughter Sue Ann Marshall says he was a selfless and caring man who really loved working with Woodstock Minor Hockey.
"Well my dad was involved in hockey for many years. He started when my brother was in Novice and he took on several roles throughout his years of involvement, not only with the executive as vice president and president for several years, he looked after timekeepers for awhile, and he was the equipment manager right up until his passing 5 years ago. He helped out in so many ways - fundraising - and he just loved being at the arena. He dressed up at Christmas as an elf to give out candy canes to the peanut group. As far as having his picture on the wall, he was a very modest man. He himself would probably say he was not deserving, but it's such a great honour to have everything he has done acknowledged by the city in front of his peers, friends, and family."
