Farah Foster Manning is one of two Canadians who will be taking part in the RAAM race across America in support of the veterans charity Operation Second Chance.
WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock woman is getting set to race across the United States of America later this month.
Farah Foster Manning is a member of Team One Mile in the RAAM race consisting of 3,000 miles starting in Ocean, California and cycling all the way to Annapolis, Maryland.
She says they are doing this ride to support veterans suffering from PTSD and the charity organization known as Operation Second Chance.
"This is to help the veterans struggling with PTSD and just living at this point. Every single day, 22 veterans take their life, that is my purpose for racing across America with this amazing, amazing team."
Team One Mile has already raised $100,000 and counting for Operation Second Chance.
The One Mile Team consists of 8 members who will be doing the race over 7 days. Farah Foster says they will be doing it like a relay which each person doing 22 minutes at a time starting on June 19th.
Foster Manning is an elite triathlete, Canadian actress, podcaster and author of a #1 international bestseller book. She is one of the only people competing in this race who is not a veteran. She is currently doing intense training, trying to get her body ready for the extreme heat, especially at the start of the race in California and going through Arizona.
"I am riding up to 3-4 hours a day. I actually really like the heat right now, I'm trying to get my body conditioned for it. I am taking this day by day right now and my coach is basically guiding me through different ways to train for this. Even being in the washroom with the heat on, spinning on my trainer bicycle for 2-3 hours. It is all conditioning, I can't say there won't be an issue but I am just going to take it as it comes, because you don't know what to expect."
Foster Manning has been cleared to travel to the United States for the race and her flight leaves next Wednesday. She will actually be one of the extras in the filming of Locke and Key, with her family this week in Woodstock.
