Cupcakes, free pony rides, musical performances, and fireworks all on tap for Canada Day in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - Put on your red and white - Woodstock's annual Canada Day celebrations are taking place at Southside.
The event will feature a lot of local talent including Dog House Roses, Soul Tripper, and Blind Dog Joe.
Communications and Special Events Coordinator for Woodstock, Brad Janssen says this is an all ages event.
"We have hopefully put together a program that will satisfy the appetities and tastes of young and old with either the entertainment, the crafter's alley, kiddie rides, or the free pony rides. We think we have a good party planned."
Four years ago, the city switched the festivities from Pittock to Southside. It has made it easier for more people to access through parking and public transit.
"We have a tremendous, positive feedback just because the park is one of our crown jewel of the park system. A beautiful park and lends itself to many different configurations for special events such as this. The fact that we brought the fireworks to the park is what excites people the most."
The activities will cause a portion of Southside park to be shut down.
Due to a fire zone area, the south end of the park from the concession stand to Parkinson Road, and the entrance of the park will be sealed off to vehicles.
They will allow pedestrians to travel through until 7 p.m. when they begin to set up the fireworks.
The fireworks will begin at dusk on Friday following the live local entertainment that starts at 2 p.m..
Janssen says this event is really great for the community.
"It gives us an opportunity to rally around, not only our nation's birthday, but to get together as Woodstodians and celebrate together."
